Great Gloucester Growdown

Join us for a fun and funky evening with friends to support our Community Gardening and Farm to School Programs. Enjoy delicious farm fresh appetizers, dinner and cocktails, plus garden tales with Phoebe Potts and a live auction, followed by a karaoke after party!

Generous local farmers, business sponsors and our amazing friends at Short & Main help us keep event costs very low so that 85% of proceeds go right back into our local programs, helping kids, families and older adults to grow their own healthy, organic food.

Summer Cooking Workshop!

Join Backyard Growers and a few of our Afgani and Syrian gardeners in making and enjoying recipes focusing on summer garden ingredients!

In this hands-on, interactive class, we will harvest straight from the garden, then come together to cook and enjoy several different recipes! All levels of cooking experience are welcome. 

Please email community@backyardgrowers.org with any allergies or dietary restrictions. All vegetarian meal.

Workshop is held in the dining room at The Open Door.

Every day, we'll explore a different part of growing food from the soil and everything living in it to seeds, pollinators, and what plants need to grow. Enjoy the gorgeous weather AND learn to make delicious healthy snacks all while learning how to grow food and how our food system works in Cape Ann and beyond!

Through scientific observation, art, and play we will answer some questions about plants like: why are they green? How do they grow? What do they need? how are they different from each other? and how do I plant my own?
