Would you believe that a garden can turn neighbors into friends? That popcorn crops can help 6th graders learn math? That your kids could be excited about eating their veggies?

Believe it. Because of your generosity, all of this and more is happening on Cape Ann right now.

Walter and his neighbors at McPherson Park Senior Housing enjoy fresh air and exercise while they garden together. This summer they celebrated their harvest with a pot-luck meal. The garden-raised carrot salad was delicious!

“Wait…you can GROW popcorn?!”  This year all 230 O’Maley 6th graders not only learned to grow it, they also calculated popcorn density and pop-ability, wrote popcorn poems, and drew popcorn masterpieces.

Fernando’s kids Ryan and Sara love helping their dad garden. He says their Backyard Growers garden is “getting the kids to eat healthier and showing them where their food comes from.”

Backyard Growers has come a long way. From our first 10 garden beds for a handful of neighbors in 2011, to over 200 garden beds today in schools, backyards, parks, shelters, and housing communities throughout Cape Ann. Without you, we could never have achieved so much.

Please help us reach even more seniors, kids and families in 2017 by making your gift today.   We are already 1/3 of the way to our $10,000 goal! You can help us get there. Your gift builds gardens, supports cooking and nutrition classes, and puts healthy, fresh food on the tables of folks in our community who need it the most.

Thank you so much for partnering with us. We couldn’t do this work without you.

Warmly,
Lara Lepionka, Executive Director
