Backyard Growers has been chosen as one of the MassLIFT host sites for new service members for the 2016-2017 year! We will be looking for three new service members for the positions of Community Engagement Coordinator and Youth Education Coordinator. Below is a brief overview of the MassLIFT program and position. Please visit the MassLIFT website at masslift.org and click "Join MassLIFT" for the details of the position and to apply!
About the MassLIFT position:
The Massachusetts Land Initiative for Tomorrow (MassLIFT), an AmeriCorps program managed by Mount Grace Land Conservation Trust, is a collaborative effort of regional conservation organizations (including urban conservation and gardening efforts). Members carry out capacity building projects; educate or train individuals in environmental stewardship; manage community volunteers engaged in land conservation activities; and identify new people to participate in education, recreation, or service opportunities that address land conservation needs.
Members serve as: Land Stewardship Coordinator, Regional Conservation Coordinator, Youth Education Coordinator, or Community Engagement Coordinator.
MassLIFT-AmeriCorps members engage with their supervisors to develop and carry out three or more capacity building projects over the course of the service year. Some of these projects will involve recruiting, training, and/or managing community volunteers.
Backyard Growers has proposed the following potential project for their Community Engagement Coordinator:
1) Increase engagement in community and backyard gardens among residents, volunteers, and other stakeholders through a variety of capacity building projects, including building new gardens, creating and implementing community garden guidelines and systems, managing community gardens, developing community workshops and programs, conducting outreach and program promotion, creating volunteer opportunities in community gardens, and serving directly with program participants.
Backyard Growers has proposed the following potential projects for their two Youth Education Coordinators:
1) Develop and implement youth programs at schools and community gardens that give children hands on learning experiences in the garden and in the classroom to learn about where real food comes from. Activities include planting and caring for youth gardens, facilitating cooking and food preparation lessons, and coordinating activities to engage families. Activities also include matching lesson plans with the Common Core, documenting all program offerings, and promoting our programs to the schools.
These full-time AmeriCorps positions get a living stipend, an education award, and other benefits. Our 2016-17 program runs from 8/29/16 – 7/28/17.
Application specifics, position descriptions, and info about organizations hosting MassLIFT members can be found at masslift.org.
Applications will be accepted until all positions are filled. Interviews begin mid-May, and we aim to fill all positions by July 29th.
AmeriCorps programs provide equal service opportunities. MassLIFT will recruit and select persons in all positions to ensure a diverse and inclusive climate without regard to any particular status. We encourage applications from individuals with disabilities and will provide reasonable accommodations for interviews and service upon request.
